The Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) has approved a four-component professional development program,
to be developed and delivered by the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) and the American Society
of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), for the recertification of Board Certified Oncology Pharmacists (BCOPs).
The four components will provide opportunities for BCOPs who elect to recertify by continuing education to earn more than
the 100.0 hours of continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credit required over a 7-year period. ACCP will record and report
directly to BPS the recertification credit earned by BCOPs in each component.
The four components, available annually (beginning in 2016), are as follows:
- Oncology Pharmacy Preparatory Review and Recertification Course
- Oncology Pharmacy Home Study Syllabus for Recertification
- Oncology Pharmacy Webinar Series
- BCOP Clinical Sessions
Each component will cover the domains, tasks, and knowledge statements as delineated by the BPS Specialty Council on Oncology
Pharmacy and published in the Content Outline for the Oncology Pharmacy Specialty Certification Examination. BCOPs may select
from among these annual components to earn the required number of hours during their certification cycle. Each component, priced
separately, will includes a Web-based posttest.
The table below summarizes the minimum recertification credit hours to be offered each year by each program. In total, the program will offer a
minimum of 43.0 credit hours toward BCOP recertification each year, with a total of 301.0 hours offered over 7 years. Of these 301.0 hours, a
minimum of 221.0 will be available to individual BCOPs. Factored into the total minimum eligible hours is a limitation on use of the Oncology
Pharmacy Preparatory Review and Recertification Course which must be taken at least once, but may not be taken more than three times within a

for recertification credit, in either live or home study format, at least once, but no more than three times,
during the 7-year certification cycle.
2018 Course Availability

California. The home study version of the course is available as both an online program and a workbook package.
Both the live and the home study formats of the course will include access to a Web-based posttest.
Component 2: Oncology Pharmacy Home Study Syllabus for Recertification
The Oncology Pharmacy Home Study Syllabus for Recertification will be updated and released twice annually.
The home study syllabus will be a series of current articles from the primary oncology literature, each with
learning objectives, and a web-based posttest covering the full series of articles. The articles will be made
available either in print or through electronic access, depending upon availability from the copyright holder.
The home study syllabus will provide a minimum of 16.0 recertification hours annually. BCOPs
who wish to earn recertification credit must read the instructional materials and successfully complete the
Web-based posttest by the deadline for each home study syllabus module. Only completed tests are eligible for
credit; no partial or incomplete tests will be processed.
Component 3: Oncology Pharmacy Webinar Series
The webinar series, presented twice annually with a new topic for each presentation, will be offered live,
for distance learning, and audio recorded, for home study. The webinar series will employ a flipped classroom
instructional approach. Registrants will be assigned pre-readings to provide background on the subject matter
for the webinar, and a web-based pre-assessment, to determine their understanding of the pre-assigned material.
This presentation will be audio recorded for online access at a specific time. Immediately after this presentation,
participants in the live webinar format will participate, via webinar, in a live, prescheduled question and answer
sessions lead by faculty. This session, to be audio recorded for home study, will allow participants to ask clarifying
questions about the content and its application to practice.
Participants in the home study version of the webinar series will be assigned the pre-readings, complete the web-based pre-assessment,

therapeutic topics. The BCOP Clinical Sessions will be presented live annually as embedded programming at the ACCP Annual Meeting (October),
and repeated live at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting (December). The sessions will be audio recorded as an online product for home study on demand,
following their initial live presentation at the ACCP Annual Meeting. Successful completion of a web-based posttest will be required to earn recertification
credit for the clinical sessions, live or home study.
A minimum of 3.0 hours of recertification credit will be available for participants each year through the BCOP Clinical Sessions.
To earn recertification credit for the BCOP Clinical Sessions, BCOPs will be required to attend the live program or participate in the home study
